Steam Generator Sizing Guide

The steps below will act as a steam shower size calculator. Follow the steps below to select the proper size steam generator for your steam shower.
Step 1. Measure then Multiply

Measure then multiply the Length x Width x Height (in feet) of the steam enclosure to determine the Cubic Footage

Step 2. Adjustment to Cubic Footage

Adjust the cubic footage to determine the Total Room Volume.

Materials: For natural stone or marble, multiply by 2.0. For ceramic or porcelain tile, or glass block, multiply by 1.35. If using another material, consult the manufacturer for their recommendation in a steam shower application.

Exterior wall: For one, multiply by 1.1; for two, multiply by 1.2.

Ceiling height: For a 9 ft. ceiling, multiply by 1.15; for a 10 ft. ceiling, multiply by 1.3.

Step 3. Select Steam Generator

Select a Steam Generator equal to or greater than your Adjusted Cubic Footage.

Generator Size Adj. Cubic Foot Range
7KW Generator 101-250
10KW Generator 251-450
12KW Generator 451-550
15KW Generator 551-675

Note:

  1. If there is a skylight or outside window, select the next largest generator. Skylight or window must be double-pane and sealed from the inside the steam shower.
  2. Generator voltage must match existing local utilities (208 or 240 Voltage).
  3. For optimum performance, ceiling height should not exceed 8 feet (10 feet max).
Example

The example is based on a 5 ft. x 6 ft. x 8 ft. high room with marble walls and one exterior wall.

Cubic Footage: 5′ x 6′ x 8′ = 240
Material Adjustment: 240 x 2.0 = 480
Exterior Wall Adjustment: 480 x 1.2 = 528
Ceiling Adjustment: 0
Adjusted Cubic Footage: = 528

In this example, you would select the 12kw generator.
